Name: Austin Smith
Player or Coach: SA Senior player
Date of Birth: 20/05/1985
About:
I've been playing hockey all my life and still hope to achieve something truly special with the South African Men's team before I retire from international hockey. I love the challenge of competing against the best players in the world at big tournaments. I still get nervous every time I play but it's those little nerves that keep me sharp.
Currently:
I am currently playing hockey professionally for Den Bosch Hockey Club in The Netherlands. I also teach at the International Primary School of Eindhoven in the primary department. I like
working in the garden and playing other sports when I get the opportunity.
Stick: 36.5 A5
Role Model:
My primary school teacher Murray Anderson has always been my role model. I was 12 years old when I met him and decided I would try and become just like him, a great teacher and hockey player.
Career Highlight:
Captaining South Africa at the London Olympics.
