SportWays launch official partnership with SA hockey captain Austin Smith

The National Super Skills Challenge powered by SportWays and PRINCESS Hockey forms an official partnership with Austin Smith the SA men's hockey captain and world class player. Not only will players be participating in the National Super Skills Challenge to test and improve their technical abilities. The full day clinic program also includes an introduction into HOCKEY 5’s the new FIH rule format that will be played at the u17 Youth Olympic Games in 2015.

Austin Smith (SA men’s hockey captain and PRINCESS Player), James Drummond (SA u21 player) and Miets Wagstaff (parent of Michael and Sharli who both play PSI indoor hockey) take you through their thoughts on PSI indoor hockey which has over 4000 junior players playing INDOOR HOCKEY across SA. 
 
Also interesting to note is that Germany are double Olympic Gold medallists in 2008 and 2012 and they are also double Indoor World Cup gold medallists in 2007 and 2011. Next FIH Indoor World Cup is in 2015! Both SA men's and women's teams have qualified.

It's a well known fact amongst the hockey public that the South African men's senior national hockey team is in permanent dire straits financially. However an in depth analysis of the teams finances was not the focus of my article. A recent success story  revealed a part solution to the teams need to play regular test matches without it costing an arm and a leg.

Improvement for SA men’s hockey team
 
The South African men’s hockey team won bronze at the recent Investec London Cup. South Africa played against England, Ireland and Scotland in the tournament. The team finished third behind England and Ireland after beating Scotland. NOw the team looks ahead to the Commonwealth Games 2014 starting on 23rd July 2014.

The Olympics is the ultimate instrument through which the Olympics sports can inspire a nation. Why would SASCOC take that one opportunity away from hockey which is the biggest school team sport in SA represented at the Olympics? Did I mention hockey is gender equal too?
