Provincial Coach &Player

I found hockey late on in life, think I started in Grade 8 at Pinelands High School. I was fortunate enough to go to a hockey focused school; this made enjoying the game a lot easier as I understood it better. I played throughout high school and naturally moved up the ranks all the way to first team. I made my first ever Provincial side at the age of 17; where I represented the Western Cape u18 side in PE.

During my final two years at school I started playing hockey at Central hockey club, like in high school I moved up the ranks through dedication and hard work. I made my first team debut in 2007 against UCT, was quite an experience, one filled with nerves and butterflies. I still play at Central in the Men’s Grand Challenge side.

I started coaching in my matric year; it was something that I have always been interested in. My first ever coaching job was at Pinelands North Primary where I coached cricket during the summer afternoons. I soon moved onto the high school (Pineleands High) where I was mentored by Jade Hearne and learnt the game of hockey.

During my time at Pinelands High school I worked with various teams and experimented with training methods to better my coaching ability. I moved on from Pinelands High School to the Western Cape Sports School in 2009. I am currently based at the school which allows me to coach on a day to day basis. The program has developed a few provincial players and one national player after three years which are good signs.

I’m also involved in the Provincial set-up in the Western Province. I coach in the boys WP u18A side and would like to spend a few years in this age group. Along with my provincial coaching I have travelled aboard. I have coached at three SportWays camps two in Holland and one in Spain, both of them were successful and more than amazing.
