Craig Sieben ("Siebz")

Provincial Coach

My father gave me my first stick when I was 3 and I have been in love with the game ever since.  By the age of 16 I realized I was rubbish and that I was better equipped to get people to achieve things I couldn’t- so started my coaching career.  In 2006 I made my first step towards becoming a professional coach when I joined one of South Africa’s premium hockey schools, Wynberg Boys’ as their technical director / trainer and started coaching at the University of Cape Town.

At the end of the 2011 season I decided I would further my career by coaching abroad.  I have relocated to the Netherlands and signed with Huizer hockey club as men’s 1st assistant coach in the Overgangsklasse, as well as coordinator and trainer in the club's junior section.

Hobbies?
Tail running, mtb, camping, adventure

Music?
Band of Horses, Elbow, The National, Eddie Vedder, Ryan Adams

Favourite coaching moment?
Coaching the 109th varsity matches of Cambridge against Oxford was a privilege but coming from behind twice to draw to Stellenbosch in 2010 to setup the league title in front of the biggest crowd UCT astro has ever seen with the men of UCT will take a lot to beat.

Biggest disappointment in hockey?
Breaking my finger with 5 games left in the season when I needed to play only 3 more to reach 100 games for the mighty York High 1st team- albeit most of them on grass.

Dreams for the future?
I have relocated to the Netherlands to further my coaching career and challenge myself in one of the most professional hockey structures in the world, to become the best coach/trainer I can.
My aspiration is to be involvement with a Hoofdklaase team.
